Human Lives, Whale Lives

Human Lives, Whale Lives is an interactive projection-mapped whale sculpture depicting human impact on ocean life because of the COVID19 pandemic. To bein, the piece depicts a whale swimming in a clean sea. However, when you get close to the sculpture, the COVID19 related waste flows in, and the whale becomes packed with waste. After you leave the whale, only the waste remains, and eventually, it disappears, and everything goes dark.

Single-use face masks, gloves, food containers, shopping bags, plastic coats and so on protect our lives from the COVID19 virus. However, while protecting human lives, disposable protective gear is also putting the animal lives at risk. For example, Sperm whales often mistake garbage for their favorite food, squid, and eat it.

How can we protect ourselves while taking care of our whales?
